Allen Sapp Gallery

Description

Since 1989 the Allen Sapp Gallery has been North Battleford's cultural flagship. Housed in the city's beautiful Carnegie Library building, the award-winning gallery attracts people from around the world who are passionate about art, First Nations culture, and the beauty of rural life. A bequest by Dr. Allan and Ruth Gonor of paintings by local Cree artist Allen Sapp forms the heart of the collection.

The gallery has won numerous awards and accolades for its innovative use of new media and local elders to draw out the stories and social relations embedded in the paintings. Allen Sapp was the recipient of the Order of Canada, an honorary Doctorate from the University of Regina, the National Aboriginal Lifetime Achievement Award, and a host of prestigious honours. A range of interactive tours and interpretive programs use digital technologies, traditional cultural activities, and visual art concepts to engage viewers.

The gift shop features fine crafts by Aboriginal artisans, local specialties, framed prints, books, and art supplies. New exhibits open every six months, and the interpretive programs are constantly evolving. Spend time with us and see why Allen Sapp is North Battleford's cherished treasure.
